any given year. This is the only one that showed
up in 2011 at this width. Hard maple has a golden
amber color to its sapwood. This piece has a
bubbly type of figure and is clear. Figure goes
across the entire width of the board.
Back: Clear to 22-3/4" then there is an open quarter
sized knot. The knot is 3-1/2" from an edge.

hard maple and then another 20,000 load. We also

almost like birdseye maple, but the "eyes" aren't

Front: Light amber in color and perfect. More of
an open blistered figure on this piece.
Back: Two clear chunks. One at 13-1/4"x23", ans
another at 13-1/4"x21". Big knot right in the
middle. Both of these sections have surface
checking on this side.

Curly Hard Maple

Front: Might be the best hard maple billet I have
come across in the ten years I have been doing this.
Vivid figure throughout this pale amber colored
piece. Two thin surface checks are the only flaws
on the massive piece. One is 1" long and is 49"
from an end. The other is 4" long and is 75" from
the same end. Both are hairline. I took close-ups
of them both.
Back: One small 1/8"x1" streak in the middle, and a
little planer miss on the edge beside the little streak.
A little more miss at the one end too. All the skip
comes out at 2-1/8" thick. This side is still heavily
figured, but not as much as the front. There has to
be a couple gun stocks hiding in this piece. Make
one for yourself, and send the other to me! I can
save you a lot if we cut this to 92", or less. I may
be able to leave in the upper 90"s if we ship it by
itself. I can save you $8.00 more if cut to 59", or
less. Let me know how you want it. I have
another hard maple billet, or two upcoming, but
nothing like this one. Even the Amish crew that cut
it were impressed. I told them that from now on
make them all like this one!
